While the requirements for the GED are very similar across all states, there are some subtle differences between states. We will review the Florida GED requirements and other aspects of the exam below.

Florida GED
As stated above, you will need to take and pass all 4 subjects of the exam. You can find those subjects below:
- Mathematical Reasoning – 115 Minutes
- Reasoning Through Language Arts – 150 Minutes
- Social Studies – 70 Minutes
- Science – 90 Minutes
Each subject is scored on a scale from 100-200. There are different score levels that you can review in our GED scores guide, but all that you need to be concerned with is scoring more than 145 points in each section.
A score of 145+ in each section means that you have passed the Florida GED test.
Can You Take the GED Test Online in Florida
As of September 21, 2021, the state of Florida offers the ability to take the exam online. You will have to schedule the exam and take it in a proctored environment.
You will also have to take the GED Ready exam before you can schedule an appointment to take the exam online. You can learn more about what this is in the requirements section below.
Please note that you will also need a parent or guardian present at the pre-test check for the online exam. They need to give consent for you to be recorded. If a parent or guardian is not present, the test will not proceed.
Florida GED Testing Fees
As with most standardized exams, you will need to pay a fee to take the exam in the state of Florida. Those fees are:
- In-Person Florida GED Fees – $32 per subject
- Online Florida GED Fees – $38 per subject
Florida GED Requirements
Many states have very similar GED requirements. Some states have slight variations from each other. We have listed the Florida specific GED requirements below.
Age
- You must be 18 years old to take the GED in Florida.
- If you are 16 or 17 years old and want to take the GED in Florida, you must fall under “extraordinary circumstances” according to your specific school district. You will need to contact your school district representative for this scenario. You can do so here.
Residency
- If you are 18 years or older, there is no residency requirement.
- If you are 16 or 17, you must work with your district representative to become qualified to sit for the exam.
Non-High School Status
- You must not currently be enrolled in high school.
- You must not have graduated from high school.
GED Prep Class
- If you are 18 or older, you will not have to take a GED class before sitting for the exam.
- If you are 16 or 17, you may be required to take a GED class before sitting for the Florida GED.
GED Ready Test
This is an exam offered by GED testing services. The exam serves as a way to ensure individuals are ready for the actual exam. More information on GED Ready.
- If you are taking the exam at a testing center, AND 18+, you do not need to take the GED Ready test.
- If you 16 or 17, you may have to take the GED Ready test, regardless of where you will be taking the exam.
- If you are taking the exam online, you will need to take the GED Ready test, no matter what age you are.

Florida GED FAQs
Can you retake the GED in Florida?
Yes, but there are different policies depending on how you took the exam. If you took the exam in-person, you can retake the exam with no waiting period. After the 3rd retake, you will have to wait 60 days before testing.
If you took the exam online, you will have one retake with no waiting period. You will need to wait 60 days if you require additional retakes.
How much does a GED cost in Florida?
A GED will cost $128 ($32 per subject) if you are taking the exam in-person. A GED will cost $152 ($38 per subject) if you are taking the exam online.
Do you need to be a resident in Florida to take the GED?
Florida does not require you to be a resident if you are 18 years or older.
