Maryland GED

The GED test in Maryland includes 4 total subjects. Each subject is timed. Each subject is scored separately on a scale from 100-200. You will need to score 145+ on each subject to earn your GED.

The subjects and time limits are listed below:

  1. Mathematical Reasoning – 115 Minutes
  2. Reasoning Through Language Arts – 150 Minutes
  3. Social Studies – 70 Minutes
  4. Science – 90 Minutes

Can You Take the GED Test Online in Maryland?

You can take the GED online in Maryland. You must be 18 or older, have the proper equipment (webcam, internet access, and a private room), and must have scored “green” on the GED Ready exam within 60 days.

How Much Does It Cost to take the GED in Maryland?

Maryland subsidizes the cost of the GED for test-takers. This discounted rate is only applicable for your first attempt of the exam and does not apply to retakes. The fees are as follows:

  • In-Person Maryland GED Fees – $11.25 per subject
  • Online Maryland GED Fees – $17.25 per subject

If you will be needing to take a subject exam again, you will have to pay $30 (in-person testing) or $36 (online testing).

Maryland GED Requirements

Age

  • You must be 19 years old to take the GED in Maryland.
  • You can still take the test if you are ages 16-18. You will need to provide proof of legal withdrawal or provide proof of enrollment in home instruction. Here is the legal withdrawal form.

Residency

  • You must be a resident in the state of Maryland.
  • You can provide proof of this via a Maryland issued driver license, passport, or active Military ID card.

Non-High School Status

  • You must not currently be enrolled in high school.
  • You must not have graduated from high school.

GED Ready Test

  • For individuals taking the exam at a testing center, you will not have to take the GED Ready exam.
  • For individuals taking the exam online, you will have to take the GED Ready. You will need to score “green” on the exam and receive this score within 60 days of testing.

How to Get a GED in Maryland
